A very important moment for Larissa and the Thessalian Theater is the second meeting of the International Network of Ancient Drama that takes place from 6 to 12 June in the framework of the special Program Agreement with the Ministry of Culture. After the organization of the first successful meeting, in September 2021, the Thessalian Theater welcomes - in collaboration with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Larissa - undergraduate and postgraduate students of the most famous Theater Department of Britain, the Royal Holloway of the University of London.
Larissa, a city with two Ancient Theaters on its web, can play a special role in cultivating multiple perspectives on the field of ancient drama, which mainly concerns the way it communicates with the future and the huge anthropological issues raised by the uninitiated so far. challenges. For the Thessalian Theater and its great tradition, the ancient drama is always a privileged field and especially those that originate and are inspired by it, aiming at the future and at the expansion of its international character.
The topic of artistic residency in June 2022 is: Ancient Drama, Landscape and Trauma and based on the text of Bacchus, issues related to climate change and the disruption of the relationship with the natural environment will be explored.
The meetings will take place at the Pappas Mill and at the NW Ancient Theater of Larissa, while the archaeological site of Pythion has been selected as a research site in the field, where a section of the workshops will take place.
The main guides in these meetings are the director Savvas Stroumpos (who won the Koon Award for ancient drama this year), and will teach the method of Theodoros Terzopoulos, the composer and musician Costas Vombolos, the directors Kyriakos Spanos and A A special masterclass will be given by the actress Lydia Koniordou.
The students 'work will be presented on Saturday, June 11 at the 2nd Ancient Theater (with free admission), while within the Network on Sunday, June 12, the premiere of Aeschylus' Persians will take place, directed by Savva Stroumbou, from the Zero Point Group.
The Thessalian Theater and its artistic director Kyriaki Spanou welcome the students of Royal Holloway with special emotion and joy, where she, as well as the director Alexandros Balamotis, completed their postgraduate studies.
Parallel action within the Network, in collaboration with the CASK gallery is the sculptor's art workshop Costa Sachpazi, whose exhibition opens at CASK on June 6, and is open to anyone interested.
