"In Bohori" – musical theater performance: Alcazar Garden Theatre

On Thursday, September 15, at 8.30 pm at the Alcazar Garden Theater, Minas Vidiadis' musical theater performance "In Bochoris" will be presented.

Three excellent actors, Costas Arzoglou, Pemi Zouni and Vassilis Eutaxopoulos, surrounded by an orchestra performing Smyrna songs, with the directing guidance of Vanas Pefanis, unfold the chronicle of a defining period for Greece, which changed the course of History.

The play

1923. An old man, Anastasis, with loans and his few savings, sets up a tavern with music in Piraeus. He calls it "Stou Bohori", after the well-known song of the time.

She left Smyrna, together with her daughter Renio - who lost her husband under bad circumstances - and she is educated and a very good singer.

They are flanked by Rinios' childhood friend, Fotis, a dancer and singer, the great Smyrni composer Pan. Tuntas and two more musicians.

The project spans the time period from the last days before the disaster to the first time period of the refugee and is based on historical evidence and shocking testimonies of people who lived this unique experience.

All the important events from 1890 to 1924 pass through the lives of the central heroes. The daily life of the Greeks of Smyrna, the conditions in Greece and Turkey that led to the Asia Minor Disaster and the Treaty of Lausanne with the Exchange of Populations, the Art and Culture in Smyrna, flavors and cuisine, rebetiko and the struggle of worthy musicians to establish it despite the war and controversy in Athens and Piraeus.

Important dramatic references are still made, in the first difficult years of the settlement of the 1,500,000 refugees in Greece, people who experienced contempt, enmity, and even war from their compatriots, with whom they spoke the same language...

The Smyrna songs of pain, alienation and love give the performance an even greater interest.
