Indoor and outdoor pools, hammams and waterfalls, these are what you find in Loutraki in the prefecture of Pella, at the foot of Kaimaktsalan; there, in Loutra Pozar, where the magic of water meets that of the forest. It is said that the Macedonian kings used to relax at this point after their many years of wars. And according to the legend, the soldiers put their spears in the warm water because they believed that this would make them harder and more durable.
Pozar means fire or heat in Slavic. The name is of course ideal for these baths, since they are mineral springs that reach 37°C. The chemical composition of the waters is so rich, which makes them medicinal as well as drinkable. Specifically, thermal springs are created by rainwater that seeps into the ground and reaches a great depth, where it heats up, rises higher and along the way is enriched with minerals and other ingredients with rich healing properties.
At an altitude of 400 meters, one finds the natural waterfalls - the largest one is 22 meters high, the smallest ends in a stone pool - intertwining with the outdoor pools and hot springs in a green landscape filled with landscaped paths and a gorge which is also visitable. And inside the Baths is the Alexandrian hydrotherapy center, which includes 11 pools - for up to six people - with artificial waterfalls.
Also in the area, a complex of about 15 caves has been discovered, with abundant findings from prehistoric times, which are exhibited in the small museum of Loutra. The area has been declared a cave park (Almopia Cave Park) and is the first of its kind in Greece.
Personally, I have never visited Loutra Pozar, so I will mentally travel through the lens of Stelios Matsangos...
